DL is called "bad cholesterol;" HDL "good." But LDL and HDL are not good or bad, and - strictly speaking - they are not cholesterol. LDL (low density lipoprotein) and HDL (high density lipoprotein) are lipoproteins - specially designed vehicles that travel in the blood and deliver fat and cholesterol to and from tissues in the body.
